Fall Prevention

Falls among older adults are a significant public health concern. Each year, millions of people aged 65 and older experience falls, with one out of four older adults reporting a fall annually. Falls are the leading cause of both fatal and nonfatal injuries in this age group, leading to serious consequences such as hip fractures, head injuries, and a decline in overall function. The risk factors for falls include muscle weakness, balance and gait problems, vision impairment, medications that affect balance, and environmental hazards. Preventive measures, such as regular exercise to improve strength and balance, medication review, vision checks, and making home environments safer, can greatly reduce the risk of falls.

The PHCD Health & Fitness Center will begin another cohort of its 12 week fall prevention program in Q2 2025. Call 650-448-1472 or email us if interested.
